Fake it till you make it - Every DECA member in history
Events in DECA consist of a roleplay and a written exam. During a roleplay, participants must assume the role of a businessman/businesswoman (or other specified role associated with business) and demonstrate knowledge of business theories and concepts to a judge. There is a time limit, within which the participant must speak intelligently about specific concepts (known as Performance Indicators) listed on their sheet. In addition, they will be provided with context and background for their role (a Case Study) that they can use to help illustrate their ideas and differentiate themselves. For example, the case study might assign you the role of a Human Resources Manager and give relevant data on company size, demographics, etc. to use in the roleplay.

DECA’s Principles of Business Administration Events measure the student’s proficiency in those knowledge and skills identified by career practitioners as common content across marketing, finance, hospitality, and business management and administration.
Principle Events in practice usually gives roleplays in an "interview" format. The participant, roleplaying as an applicant for a particular company, responds to demonstrate knowledge in general areas (for example, the importance of information management) rather than being targeted towards specific scenarios. Using real-world examples, business theories and insight can help participants perform well on Principles Roleplays.
The Principles of Business Administration Events are designed for first-year DECA members who are enrolled in introductory-level principles of marketing/business courses. Links to SAMPLE ROLEPLAYS for each Principle Event are included below.
DECA's Individual events effectively measure students' proficiency in the knowledge and skills identified by occcupational practioners as essential to success in a given career. Participants receive recognition for achievement in each event and in the series as a whole.
Individual events differ from Principle Events in that participants are presented with a very specific scenario or case study in which a relevant problem faces a business. The participant is required to devise a solution or suggestion or otherwise respond to the scenario's background, while demonstrating knowledge in general business areas. Creative solutions, real-world examples, and extrapolating information given in the case-study can help participants perform well in Individual Roleplays.

The Team Decision Making Events provide an opportunity for participants to analyze one or a combination of elements essential to the effective operation of a business in the specific career area. The business situation to be analyzed will be presented as a case study.
